Plouzané, a flagship town
Located to the west of Brest, Plouzané enjoys a marvellous situation, directly on the coast. Built around four main focal points, the town offers a remarkable quality of life and has all the facilities needed to cater for everyone. Its economic appeal is strong: the Technopôle, located to the south of the town, attracts world-renowned institutes and companies.
Rapid growth
In 1965, the municipality had a population of around 2,500. Today it has almost 14,000! Plouzané’s development has been very rapid, directly linked to that of Brest. In the 1970s, Plouzané was still split between two centres separated by large expanses of countryside: on the one hand, Le Bourg, where the town hall, post office, church and a few shops were located, and on the other, La Trinité, which was expanding rapidly.
In response to this gap, a new district was created in 1975, in the middle of the fields between Le Bourg, and La Trinité: Castel Nevez. It was decided to locate the new town hall there. The development of this area has created an entirely new central hub, with primary and middle schools, gymnasium, housing, etc. Nearby, the Mescouezel business park has added an economic dimension to this new centre.
Later, a number of schools, businesses and research and teaching establishments were set up to the south of the town, forming the Brest Iroise Technopôle (business park) These establishments are often internationally renowned, working mainly in the fields of marine sciences, telecommunications, information technology, imaging and biotechnologies etc.
